Newport, R.I.
April 24, 1945
Dear Folks,
Well I got back O.K. and in plenty of time. So far what we are doing seems like boot camp all over again. Intelligence tests, classification, different eye tests, etc. I went into Newport last nite on liberty and didn't think much of it, the town I mean. It's pretty much like Norfolk, so full of sailors that they outnumber civilians, but that's the way it is around most big stations. It is pretty cold up here as you can imagine. I still down know what I'll be assigned to, but I'll probably find out within a few days. that's about all, so I close with,
All my love,
Paul

These are my brother's letters home from the U.S. Navy during WW II, written in 1943-1946 (when he was 17-20). I decided to copy his typos and misspellings as he wrote them. Entries from his ship's log are inserted for the dates between his letters. Blogger won't let me date the posts as if they were published in the 1940's, so please subtract 30 years from the "publication date" you see above each post.
